December 2024: Documentation and Preliminary Analysis at the Archaeological Museum of Istria in Pula

At the Archaeological Museum of Istria in Pula, a team of archaeologists involved in the Osor Beyond the Myth project reviewed material from the 1959 excavation of the burial mound at St. Mary’s on Osor.

The primary focus was on osteological remains from the graves, which will undergo analysis at the Institute for Anthropological Research in Zagreb under the supervision of Dr. Mario Novak.

The skeletal remains will be subject to comprehensive anthropological analysis, and samples have been prepared for:
🧬 Radiometric dating
🧬 Ancient DNA (aDNA) analysis
🧬 Strontium isotope analysis

We look forward to the new data, which will allow for a more detailed reconstruction of Early Iron Age society in the region.
