Osor beyond the myth

November 2025: Conclusion of the Scientific Conference: Osor in the Scientific Spotlight

At the international conference held over two days on 4 and 5 November 2025 at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Primorska, numerous researchers from a wide range of disciplines came together to explore and discuss Osor. For the first time in more than 150 years of research history, specialists from diverse fields gathered with a singular scientific focus on Osor – the small, eternal town that, through its existence spanning more than 3,000 years, continues to connect and inspire.

The programme included a series of scholarly presentations and an introduction to the project Osor beyond the Myth. Twenty-one papers were presented, followed by a guided visit to the exhibition Death in Osor at the Faculty of Humanities, a concluding discussion on future perspectives for Osor-related research, and the awarding of certificates to participants.

The conference highlighted Osor as a living place of layers, a space where material remains and symbolic landscapes intertwine. Each layer, from prehistory to the Middle Ages, carries stories of people, their interactions, transformations, and the ways they understood the world around them. Beyond the myth, a network of relationships emerges: between nature and humanity, between place and identity. When we walk through Osor, we do not merely traverse the remains of the past; we move through the setting of an enduring dialogue between past and present.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone whose knowledge, dedication, and hard work helped shape this conference, and to all who joined us – researchers, colleagues, and collaborators alike. Through your participation, you demonstrate that a myth endures only as long as we continue to reinterpret and understand it anew.
